Joining the library - FAQS

Is joining the library really free?

Joining the library is completely free—and so is borrowing and reserving books, as well as using our public computers. We no longer charge fines for overdue items, so you can enjoy what you borrow without added pressure.

What if I lose or damage something?
If an item is lost or badly damaged, we may ask for it to be replaced. We’re understanding about normal wear and tear, especially with children’s books.

Does my child need to be able to read to join the library?

We welcome babies from 0 months upwards and have board and other books they will love. Research shows that shared reading improves 0–12 month old children’s speech, communication and language skills

Can I use the library if I don’t want to borrow books?
You’re welcome to use study spaces, computers, Wi-Fi, or just enjoy a quiet place to relax, even if you don't have a library membership.
